Anarchy Reptiles: South Florida Business

I have several vivid memories from my childhood that involve my older brother and his love of animals, particularly the scaly kind of animals. I can still hear my mother shrieking while standing on top of the kitchen counter as a small boa slithers across the family room floor. My brother, Jason, secretly had the boa living in his drawer for months and it just so happened to escape that morning. Or the time my mom calls me in a panic because his ANACONDA (yes my crazy brother owned a HUGE anaconda) had escaped from the cage and proceeded to knock over one of his small fish tanks and was flooding the upstairs. Jason definitely kept us on our toes with the animals he brought home.

Now he’s in the process of opening his own exotic animal store called, Anarchy Reptiles, and he asked me to take a few photos for his website. It was definitely a completely different experience from working with people. The animals have a mind of their own and several snakes could care less that I wanted to take a photo of them. Some would slither away from me while others would arch back ready to strike. My heart was racing and I held my breath as I inched closer to get the perfect shot. Thankfully, I walked away unharmed. It turns out they were more afraid of me than I was of them.

If you’re not a fan of snakes, lizards, spiders, or scorpions I suggest you don’t scroll down. For the rest of you who are curious and can find the beauty in these types of animals, ENJOY!

So cool how he blends in with the tree and he was totally stalking the cricket.

This guy below is known to be a meany so I photographed him behind the glass. I didn’t want to take any chances.

I learned today that if you hold a UV light over a scorpion, they glow blue. Pretty cool huh?

This spider gives me goosebumps every time I see it.
